Orthodontics - What's that?
Orthodontics is the field of dental specialty that deals with the problems of the oral health like the the development, prevention, and correction of irregularities of the teeth, bite, and jaws and treatment using braces.
Orthodontists also are trained to deal with problems of the jaw and undergo specialized training in facial abnormalities and disorders of the jaw.
Infact the American Dental Association recommends that every child should be seen by an orthodontic specialist and evaluated for any jaw and teeth problems by the age of seven when the child's jaw is still moldable.
Orthodontic treatment - What is the need for it?
Orthodontic problems are usually called malocclusion - over bite or under bite are the usual problems. Others include misaligned, crooked, or crowed teeth, misaligned or incorrect jaw position, missing teeth, extra teeth and a disorder of the jaw joint.
Leaving these problems could lead to many problems like not able to chew food properly, talking disorders and clicking teeth and most important of all - lack of good self-image.
Treatment can give people confidence and positive self-image and a million dollar smile too!
